X might get rid of DMs, and people are puzzled

Spread the love

Summary: A software engineer at X stated that the platform will remove its entire DM system. Rumors floated around that the company would bring its own messaging platform called XChat.

Lately, Elon Musk has been causing havoc and pain on a governmental scale by being on DOGE. However, we’re sure that most of us missed the good old days when his bad ideas only affected X users. Well, he’s back with another questionable move regarding his social media platform.

There’s been a ton of drama surrounding X’s DM system. This involved letting Premium users message whoever they want. However, that might pale in comparison to the platform’s next major move.

X might get rid of its DM system

Right now, we’re operating on whispers and rumors, so you’ll want to take this cautiously. Anything could change at the drop of a hat— which is especially true for X.

One X user commented that they were experiencing an issue with their DMs. Zack Warunek, a software engineer at X, casually commented that “the whole entire DM’s will be gone soon.” That’s all he said on that matter, as there were no subsequent comments from him.

The fact that he said “soon” is a bit significant. We don’t know when X plans to bring this change, and the company didn’t make any announcements. So, it almost seems like the company will delete the DM system with little to no warning. Hopefully, that’s not the case.

What will replace the DMs?

As far as X removing the DM system, we only have a short and sweet comment to go on. However, this next bit of news is purely rumor. There have been rumblings of a platform called XChat. While that sounds like a platform you should only visit when mommy and daddy are asleep, it aligns with Elon Musk’s branding.

We don’t know if this platform will be a standalone app or something accessible through the main app. If it becomes its own app, then it could follow in Meta’s footsteps with Facebook and its standalone messaging app. However, if it’s accessible through the main app, then it could be a major revamp of the system. At this point, all we can do is wait and hope that it doesn’t further diminish the app’s user experience.
