Movement of trains on the Belagavi route was back to normal post-noon on April 15 after a disruption lasting around 3 hours following derailment of two goods wagons.

“All previously regulated trains are now running on their respective paths, as the affected section of Road 1 and Road 2 at Belagavi station was cleared at 10 a.m. No trains have been diverted or cancelled,” according to a South Western Railway bulletin released on April 15.

Following the derailment around 7.30 a.m., movement of trains in Belagavi was disrupted for close to 3 hours.

Sources said that the goods train was carrying iron ore from the JSW factory. Movement of trains on both the Up and Down lines was blocked after two wagons slid off the track, with one coming to rest on the other track.

Officials blocked all four lines — two main lines, one to the railway coaching depot and an extra line — at the railway station to facilitate repair of the damaged track. This led to suspension of all train services on the Belagavi-Miraj route.

An accident relief train was dispatched from Hubballli to the site to expedite track restoration efforts.

SWR regulated nine trains due to the disruption.
