The State government has transferred a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) and 11 other police officers, including a Circle Inspector, two SIs and other personnel of Guntur district, on charges of dereliction of duties. The DSP was asked to report to the A.P. Police Headquarters.

The Guntur police arrested former Hindupur Member of Parliament and YSR Congress Party leader K. Gorantla Madhav and five others on Friday (April 11) for allegedly assaulting an accused, who was in police custody, and behaving highhandedly with the police and obstructing their duties.

Mr. Madhav and his followers allegedly attacked a youtuber, Chebrolu Kiran, who was arrested for making objectionable comments against Y.S. Bharathi, wife of former Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy. The former MP and other accused intercepted the police vehicle and attacked the youtuber, while he was being shifted from Mangalagiri to Guntur.

The police officials observed that some officers acted negligently while shifting Mr. Madhav to the Government Hospital for medical checkup and to the court.

Speaking to The Hindu on Sunday, Guntur District Superintendent of Police S. Satish Kumar said that a CI, two SIs and other staff were suspended over the issue.

The suspended officers include, Arundelpet CI Veeraswamy, SIs Ramanjaneyulu and Rambabu attached to Pattabhipuram and Nagarampalem stations, ASIs Antony and Yedukondalu and six other constables, the SP said.
