Over 4,700 Meetings With More Than 28,000 Representatives Of Parties: How EC Is Solving Long-Pending Issues

The Election Commission of India (ECI), bringing all stakeholders concerned to the table, is resolving issues that were raised by political parties. In a span of 25 days till March 31, the poll body had conducted more than 4,700 meetings nationwide, engaging over 28,000 representatives of political parties.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the EC said a series of structured engagements with political parties at the level of Electoral Registration Officer (ERO), District Election Officer (DEO), and Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) were held across the country.
The engagements, as per the poll body, were aimed to resolve any pending issues by the competent authority concerned – ERO or DEO or CEO – within the existing legal framework.
These meetings were held in accordance with the directives issued by Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar along with ECs Dr Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Dr Vivek Joshi, during the Chief Electoral Officers’ conference held last month in New Delhi.
“In a span of 25 days and as of 31st March 2025, a total of 4,719 meetings were conducted, with 40 meetings by CEOs, 800 by DEOs, and 3,879 by EROs, engaging over 28,000 representatives of political parties nationwide,” the poll body said.
These engagements, the EC said, have been well-received by political parties, with active and enthusiastic participation across assembly Constituencies, districts, and states/UTs.
Last month, the poll body had directed all the units from state to assembly level to hold meetings with political parties regularly and resolve issues within the statutory framework. The poll body has also asked the officials to be approachable and responsive to political parties.

The CEOs are in-charge of the elections at the state levels, the DEOs are for districts and EROs are for the assembly constituency levels. The EROs are responsible for preparing and revising the electoral roll for each constituency. The ERO is appointed by the EC and is a civil service or revenue officer of Sub Divisional Officers.
