The Samsung India Workers’ Union (SIWU), backed by the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU), has issued a 14-day strike notice to the company’s management, demanding the reinstatement of 23 suspended workers of the Samsung factory at Sriperumbudur, along with the fulfilment of other demands.

The move comes less than a month after the SIWU withdrew their month-long protest on March 7, 2025. 

The strike notice served on Wednesday (April 2, 2025) wanted the management to withdraw the disciplinary action initiated against the 23 workers. 

It also sought for the management to recognise the SIWU, which has a majority of members, and sign a wage pact with it. The management, however, should not force members of the SIWU to sign the wage agreement, which has been signed with the Samsung India Welfare Federation, the notice said. 

It also urged the management to immediately pay the ex gratia amount to the workers and to organise a secret ballot to decide which organisation — the SIWU or Samsung India Welfare Federation — has the majority.

If these demands are not met, the SIWU said its workers would go on strike after the 14th day from the strike notice dated April 2, 2025.
