₹10 crore allotted for supercomputing centre at Pampady

The State government has allocated ₹10 crore for the initial work of setting up a supercomputing centre at the Srinivasa Ramanujan Institute for Basic Sciences (SRIBS) in Pampady, which operates under the Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment (KSCSTE).
The supercomputing centre is being established at the institute with an investment of ₹100 crore for advanced computational modelling and simulation. The funding for the initial phase was included in the 2025-26 State Budget. The facility, designed for research in various scientific and technological fields, will be made accessible to all educational and research institutions in the State.
Last year, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan had made a special mention about the importance of supercomputers during the completion of the first phase of the Srinivasa Ramanujan Institute. The amount was then announced for a massive project called K-STAR (Kerala Supercomputing for Technological Advancement and Research) submitted by the institute.
To compete globally
According to C.H. Suresh, director of the institute, once the supercomputing centre becomes operational, new opportunities and talents will be created here to compete globally in scientific research using supercomputing.
Established in 2014, the institute is capable of nurturing innovative ideas in the fields of physics, chemistry, biology, mathematics, and computational sciences. It plays a crucial role in conducting cutting-edge research by collaborating with leading research institutions in India and abroad.
